About the Pill Hill historic district
Pill Hill is the historic doctors’ enclave that climbs the hill behind Mayo Clinic’s Saint Marys Hospital on Rochester’s southwest side. The Pill Hill Residential Historic District has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1990, and its grand 1903–1937 Colonial Revival, Tudor, and Prairie-style homes were built largely by the early Mayo physicians and surgeons the neighborhood is named for. This is the oldest concentrated housing stock in Rochester, and that shapes the junk-removal work here more than anywhere else in the city.
